Glenmore & Leisure Bay

Popular holiday destinations which have traditionally drawn their clientele from the Free State and up-country. Much of the housing stock here started life as weekend or fishing cottages but has been substantially upgraded as demand has increased for more expensive property. Good small beaches and excellent rocky fishing spots. This area, including Port Edward, was much favoured by servants of the old regime as a subsidised holiday destination and the revamped Teachers’ and Policemans’ Beach developments serve as reminders. 

     

Port Edward

Last stop before crossing over the Umtamvuna River into what was formerly the independent homeland of Transkei. Like Glenmore and Leisure Bay, Port Edward has always been popular with mainly Afrikaans speaking holidaymakers but is also, because of its location, a growing commercial centre. There is a good mix of shops, a little light industry, a very popular ski boat launching facility and a golf course and sports facilities. As with everywhere else on the coast development is rapidly increasing the stock of properties for sale and the better homes now fetch previously undreamed of high prices. The proposed extension of the N2 is expected to improve the town’s fortunes but in the meantime its proximity to the Wild Coast Casino with its entertainment facilities and magnificent golf course will continue to underwrite the town’s popularity as a holiday destination. Certainly worth exploring
